Watch an Interview with six students (all young ladies) from Empoder’s Pilot Summer Immersion Program in Mexico. Prior to the summer program, none of these young ladies had any interest in studying engineering or computer science. After the program all six young ladies became enthusiastic about pursuing a STEM related career. Hear why these young ladies all changed their mind about pursuing a career in STEM.
Meet Leo. Prior to Empoder’s Summer Immersion Program, Leo had no interest in engineering, computers or any technical field whatsoever. He didn’t even like to play video games! The only reason he attended Empoder’s summer program was because his parents forced him to. However, as Leo began to learn coding and programming for video games he began to appreciate the complexity involved in creating code and found it fascinating! In fact, the videogame that Leo designed and coded won 2nd place in Empoder’s final compeition! Watch Leo describe the transformation he experienced during his two weeks in Empoder’s summer program.

“The difference between Empoder and school is that in school we all we learn is theory, math and numbers. We never learn how this applies to anything or why it matters, so it’s boring. But Empoder teaches us how all the theory we learn applies to real life. We learn how engineering is used to improve businesses, the environment, health and everything else. And that makes us want to learn more.”
“I never in a million years would have ever imagined I would be interested in something related to computers, much less computer programming! I hated computers and video games. But through this class I learned the beauty of writing code and all the things you can do with it. And now I find it fascinating! I love it! ”
“The difference between Empoder and other classes is that here, our teachers teach with PASSION. And that translates to the students. It makes us excited to learn and want to study engineering.”
“My daughter loved the instrumentation class. Now she wants to be an electrical engineer. Before she wanted to be a teacher.”
“For the first time in my son’s life, I see him excited about what he’s learning. He comes home and won’t stop talking about the different things he learned during the day. He’s been bored in school his entire life. But now he’s engaged, he’s excited and it’s beautiful.”
“It was beautiful to see how the little ones (ages 9-10) were able to understand complex concepts and use them to formulate new ideas that we, as adults, would have never imagined.”
